What is the Secret Brand Effect?
When creating and managing a business, how you present yourself to the world may be the most important thing you do. This can be from what product you sell, your name, logo, and your interactions with your community. All of this is your brand.
In the current era of the internet, creating an online business has never been easier. Many companies will even straight-up build one for you! With it being easier than ever to start a business, why do so many fail? From my experience, the main reason would be, their branding.
Let’s look at an example, shall we? We’re going to start with the powerhouse of the internet: Google. Since their debut in 1998, they’ve created some of the most powerful technology ever made by humans; but as we’ve seen in the past, good products don’t always mean good business. To share their amazing technology, Google developed a strong brand name, theme, colors, and logo. Since its inception, they’ve kept most of it similar but modernized it a bit. Much of this changed though in 2006. Google wanted to unify its products and software under the umbrella brand of Google, and so came Google Suite/Workspace. With this, much of their software and products were unified in a similar brand style and color, and with that, anyone could tell that those products were Google-made.
The Brand Effect
Using what we’ve dubbed, “The Brand Effect,” Google was able to unify their product line under one category. From a business perspective, it massively helps with organization; as who wants to keep track of a bunch of products that aren’t connected to your brand somehow? Most importantly though, the consumer finds it unbelievably helpful, even if they don’t notice why.
To try to understand why the consumer loves it, let’s take a look at ourselves. Have you ever been to the grocery store and seen an item that you loved? I bet you have, because it turns out, that an estimated 70% of everything you buy at a grocery store is a repeat purchase. This means that people want to buy from brands that they know and love, and most of us have had that experience in which we love a certain product, to then see another product made by the same brand. Many times if it looks good, we’ll buy it without a second thought. That right there is called brand trust. But how do people know it’s your brand? If you’re making two different branded products, you're reaching two different audiences. Why not combine both the brands of the products? You’ll double your audience size instantly while showing each side of the audience what you also have to offer.
Closing Thoughts
When you have a trusted brand, people come to you. People want to have a sense of security and trust when it comes to your brand, that’s what creates a following. Why not take your products and put them under the same brand? Many online business owners have a multitude of different products under a different link or brand, so combine them! It makes it easier for you to manage, and it puts trust in the consumer that your other products are as good as the ones that they currently trust.
